Meet Alexis Strong

I’m 32 years old and I come from Halesowen in the West Midlands I’m married to a wonderful lady called Teresa and have a step daughter called Sophie and a gorgeous grandson called Albie.

I started dancing at the age of 3 at Adelphi studios in Halesowen with a teacher called Dorothy Darby. I started off by doing Disco, ballroom and modern where I gained many certificates and awards with the IDTA I got 12 rosettes in ballroom, Latin American and Disco along with bronze, silver, gold Gold bar 1-3 and star 1-5 and a teaching certificate all in which I got highly commended and blue ribbon

I also won many competitions doing team dancing, rock and roll doubles, and solo all over the West Midlands At the age of 10 my teacher introduced Line dancing to us which I took to straight away the first dance I learnt was Electric slide and Hillbilly Rock which I loved!! I loved it that much that I decided to look for more line dance classes in the area and I found a fantastic teacher called Sue Dale.

The first dance I learnt there was one step forward. I started going Line dancing 6 nights a week along with Salsa and Ceroc and starting collecting line dance fever cd’s and line dancer magazine. I then went on to gain bronze, silver, gold, gold bar 1-3 star 1-5 and a teaching certificate.

I started teaching line dancing at 16 helping out in classes by doing cover then eventually started a class of my own which was very successful. In 2012 I decided to choreograph my own dance called Soldier Boy to a track by Marcus Collins ( Severn Nation Army Cutmore edit) which was a success as a couple of Demo’s we’re done by Regina Cheug and her classes. I then went on To choreograph Fly High, Why wait, I’m Stronger, Loving the sound and many more (68 dances so far) I have also Choreographed dances with some wonderful people laura Sway, Julie lockton, heather Barton, Niels Poulsen, Suzi Beau, Juliet Lam, Ann-Kristen Sanberg, Pat Stott, Sandra Speck, Gary Samms, Caroline Cooper, Bobbey Wilson, Karen Kennedy, Rep Ghazali- Meaney, Dwight Messen, Roz Chaplin, Micaela Svensson Erlandsson, Helen Owen and Hayley Wheatley

I can honestly say Line dancing is my life I have some truly amazing friends and it’s helped me so much as in June 2016 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour called a meningioma, which was awful and caused so many bad symptoms but again my line dancers supported me through this illness which I’m truly grateful for that.

I’m so lucky to have such great classes I have a Monday morning class with over 75 members and a Tuesday evening class with over 65 members. There are all so loyal and support me every week. In January 2018 I was diagnosed again with two meningioma brain tumours which was devastating news as thought I was doing so well, unfortunately the tumours are unable to be removed so I’ve just had a course of cyberknife radiotherapy which I am now waiting to see if has been successful. Hearing this News it has shattered my life and everyone around me but doing my line dancing keeps me going.

I always want to live my life to the fullest and enjoy everyday as if it’s my last.
